The Premier League have announced that one person has tested positive for COVID-19 during the latest round of testing.

Clubs are preparing for the return of the 2019/20 season on June 17, and are carrying out testing twice a week, with just one person from 1,197 samples testing positive on this occasion.

“The Premier League can today confirm that on Monday 1 June and Tuesday 2 June, 1197 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19. Of these, one has tested positive,” a statement from the Premier League read.

“The individual who tested positive will now self-isolate for a period of seven days.

“The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency. No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League and results will be made public after each round of testing.”

The first round of testing, which took place on May 17 and 18, saw six positive results brought back from three different clubs, while the second round from May 19 to 22 resulted in two more positive results from two clubs.

The third round of testing resulted in four more positive tests, while the fourth round of testing, conducted at the end of last week, saw no new cases.
