COVID-19: NYSC begins plans to reopen camps

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has prepared a proposal, which includes guidelines that would ensure safe and efficient conduct of its operations. The 2020 Batch ‘A’ Stream One Orientation Course was suspended after a week, as part of the measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria. The Akwa Ibom State First Lady, Dr. Martha Emmanuel has announced that her pet platform, Family Empowerment Youth Reorientation Path-initiative, FEYReP would embark on naming and shaming of perpetrators of rape in the State. The First Lady announced this in an interaction with Journalists in Uyo following the growing reported cases of rape in the state. Dr. Emmanuel who vowed to ensure the conviction of rapists through the help of law enforcement agents called on lawmakers to enact legislation with stiffer penalties on rapists, child abusers, and predators in the state. 9 Internet fraudsters bag jail terms in Abeokuta

The Ibadan Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has secured the conviction of nine internet fraudsters, before two different judges of the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. The latest of the convictions, involved Toheeb Abdulrasheed and Chukwuebuka Isaac Dike, who were sentenced by Justice Mohammed Abubakar of the Federal High Court, Abeokuta, Ogun State on Monday, June 8, 2020 for their involvement in internet-related fraud. Dike, who claimed to be a 100-level Biochemistry student of the Federal University of Agriculture, FUNAAB, was sentenced to three months in prison; while Abdulrasheed, a self-acclaimed graduate of Business Administration from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY, Abeokuta, bagged four months. Their sentences followed the prayer of prosecution counsel, Abdulrasheed Suleiman for their conviction after they pleaded guilty to their respective amended one-count charge. The rainstorm also injured dozens of people with the destruction of several properties, including pulling down of trees and electric poles. Spokesman of Governor, Mamman Mohammed Tuesday in Damaturu disclosed: “Buni has expressed with sadness the loss of life, sustained injuries with the destruction of infrastructure facilities caused by Monday rainstorms.” “The heavy rainstorm was accompanied by a powerful windstorm in Damaturu, the state capital.” He, therefore, prayed for the repose of the soul that was lost in the storm and, to his family the fortitude to bear the loss. Man rapes physically challenged girl in Ogun

One Oluwafemi Kehinde, was on Tuesday arraigned in an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun, for allegedly raping a physically challenged girl. The 35-year-old who lives at No. 36 Success Street, Abule Isale, Ilogbo Road, Ota, is facing a count charge of rape. The Prosecutor, Insp. E.O. Adaraloye told the court that the defendant committed the offense at his residence at about 10.30 p.m. on Feb. 12. NAN reports that Adaraloye said the defendant had unlawful carnal knowledge of the complainant, by using his manhood to caress her private part, knowing fully well that she is a physically challenged person. He said that the offence contravened Section 360 of the Criminal Code Vol.1, 2006. The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Adeyemi, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum. She ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment to Ogun Government.

Police arrest clergyman for allegedly raping 19-yr-old girl in Delta
