Nigeria's former President Goodluck Jonathan has gotten a new international appointment.  Goodluck Jonathan   Nigeria’s immediate past President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has been appointed by the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, as a special envoy to lead the sub-regional body’s mediation mission in Mali   The latest development was made publick by his media adviser, Ikechukwu Eze on Tuesday.   As a special envoy, the former President is expected to facilitate dialogue “with all principal stakeholders in Mali, including President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, opposition leaders, civil society as well as religious organisations, towards resolving the worsening socio-political situation in the West African country.”   Dr. Jonathan who is billed to depart for Bamako, the Malian capital on Wednesday was quoted as saying he would do his best to ensure that the mission achieves the desired result.   He also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the support of the Nigeria

Nigeria's President Muhammadu Buhari has been urged to reopen schools across the nation.  House of Representatives   The House of Representatives has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to order a partial reopening of schools to allow pupils sit for the 2020 West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination.   According to Punch, the House made the call at the plenary on Tuesday following a unanimous adoption of a motion moved by a member, Nnolim Nnaji.   The Committee on Basic Education and Services had earlier on Friday faulted the decision by the Federal Government to suspend the plan to partially reopen schools for pupils in final classes to take external examinations.   The committee had particularly criticised the decision to disallow Nigerian pupils from sitting for WASSCE to be conducted by the West African Examination Council for the 2019/2020 academic session.   Schools at all levels have been shut since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic.   The Presidential T

A little girl helping a man take shelter from the rain in her mother's shop has been violated.  File photo   Policemen in Plateau state have arrested a man for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl after taking shelter in her mom's shop on a rainy day.   Abdul Abdul, 39, was arrested by the Police in Jos, Plateau State.   Abdul, a married father-of-six who lives in Bukuru, Jos South Local Government Area, allegedly committed the crime on June 8, when he went into the girl's mother's shop to buy water.   Speaking to newsmen on Monday, July 13, Abdul claimed what he had with the girl was "sex" not rape. He said he took shelter in the girl's mum's shop after buying 20 Naira sachet water following a break from the building project he was involved in in the house opposite the shop.   He claims that he remained in the shop, discussing with the girl after buying the water.   He said he touched her shoulder and she didn't resist so he went further. The suspect is facing 20 years imprisonment for luring, raping and blackmailing a student and her friend.    Cultist Jailed 20 Years For Raping FUOYE Undergraduate And Her Friend A notorious cultist identified as  Tayo Bakare, has been sentenced by Justice Abiola Soladoye of the Lagos State Special Offences Court, to 20 years’ imprisonment for raping an undergraduate of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, and her friend. Punch Metro had reported that Bakare was arraigned on eight counts bordering on conspiracy to commit robbery, robbery, deprivation of liberty and rape. The prosecution said the offences contravened sections 260(1) (2), 272, 297(1) and 299 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015. The 19-year-old victim had alleged that Bakare, on August 27, 2017, in the Ikotun area of Lagos, ordered her to remove her clothes, took her nude pictures with her phone and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her.
