Chelsea have stepped up their preparations for the Premier League's return later this month by being allowed to start contact training.

The Blues returned to their Cobham training base almost a fortnight ago as they were granted permission to start training again following the coronavirus shutdown.

Initially, players were forced to train in a group of no more than five people and maintain the strict social distancing rules that have been set out by the Government.

But following the Premier League's announcement about the campaign getting back under way on June 17, training sessions have been allowed to become just that little bit more intensive, with contact training now allowed, meaning Frank Lampard now has a much greater sense of what sort of state his players are in, both fitness wise and confidence wise.

All training sessions are taking place behind closed doors, as will Premier League fixtures when they return, but luckily images are being published by the club's in-house media team, meaning we can take a close look at just what is going on at Cobham following almost three months of silence.

The Blues are due to resume their Premier League campaign with a trip to Villa Park to face relegation-threatened Aston Villa, and with that now not too far away, Lampard is putting all of his players through the necessary tests to get them ready for the restart.
