WHO: Africa’s coronavirus death toll tops 6,200

Africa has recorded over 6,200 deaths due to complications arising from COVID-19.

According to the latest number released by the World Health Organization, WHO, regional office for Africa in Brazzaville, Congo, there are 6,218 deaths recorded on the continent.

Africa has also recorded over 230,000 COVID-19 cases and 105,000 recoveries in 54 countries.

As of Sunday morning, Nigeria has recorded 399 reported deaths, fifth-highest on the continent.

South Africa is now ahead of Egypt, with 1,423 deaths, the highest on the continent, while the North African nation has 1,422 deaths.

Algeria has 760 reported deaths, while Sudan has 433 deaths.

Other countries are Cameroon (270 deaths), Morocco (212 deaths), DR Congo (105 deaths), Mali (104 deaths), Kenya (100 deaths), and Somalia (87 deaths).

After the death of former Oyo state governor on Thursday, it was expected that he would be buried within 24 hours according to Islamic rites. But surpringly, the funeral rites of ex Senator and Governor, and has been postponed by the family. The postponement was announced by Bolaji Tunji, a spokesperson for the family of the deseased. According to the Nation Newspaper, Tunji told reporters in his Oluyole, Ibadan residence on Friday morning that the family would soon make an announcement of the burial programme.
