COVID-19 cases in Nigeria increased further on Thursday with 350 cases reported by the country, even as the nation intensifies efforts to flatten the curve of the pandemic. The new cases were confirmed by the specialist agency, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Twitter. This takes the country’s total infections to 11,516 out of which 3,535 have been discharged with 323 losing their lives. Data from the NCDC showed that the cases were spread across 19 states and the FCT, with Lagos accounting for the highest number of infections for the day with 102 cases. Three brothers have been arrested in connection with the murder of a woman in Abuja, according to Mr. Frank Mba, Public Relations of the Police Force. Mba, in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, said the suspects, from Isiekenesi, Ideato Local Government Area in Imo, are helping police investigation into the May 14 murder of Mrs. Janet Ogbonnaya, a mother of five children. He said that the suspects were arrested by the police in their home town, where they had allegedly taken refuge after committing the crime in Abuja, to evade arrest. Mba said that investigation that led to their arrest followed complaints by one Chinedu Ogbonnaya, who alleged that his mother, Janet, 55, a native of Ozuitem in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, had been kidnapped. Ogbonnaya told the police that N5 million ransom was being demanded by the kidnappers to secure the mother’s release. The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, on Wednesday June 3 2020, chaired a meeting of the FCT Administration and leadership of the FCT Christian Association of Nigeria and League of FCT Imams Initiative to review the guidelines issued by the Presidential Task Force on COVID 19 particularly as they concern places of worship. While reviewing the guidelines, the meeting received briefings from the FCT COVID 19 Emergency Response Team on the situation of the pandemic in the FCT. The report of the Committee set up by the Honourable Minister on May 19 2020, to draw up protocols to be adopted for possible re-opening of places of worship, was equally received at the meeting. …Says PPPRA to advice on monthly price By Michael Eboh The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA, has removed the cap on the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, giving marketers freedom to fix price of the commodity and sell above the price stipulated by it. The PPPRA, in a document released, yesterday evening, titled, ‘Market Based Pricing Regime for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) Regulations, 2020,’ stated that, henceforth, the price of PMS would be determined by market forces. In the document signed by its Executive Secretary, Mr. Abdulkadir Saidu, the PPPRA, however, stated that it would continue to monitor trends in the crude oil market and advise the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and oil marketers on the monthly guiding price for the commodity. With this development, Ogun State now has 109 active cases of COVID-19, the government said in a release on its social media handles. “Ogun State has discharged 4 COVID-19 cases on 3rd June 2020, after they tested negative to the virus. The total number of discharged cases in the State is now 164. “However, 2 new cases have been confirmed, making the total number of confirmed cases 282.
